3 Idiots - Reflection

The movie 3 Idiots was truly an amazing story. It is a story with the element of fun and drama combined with wonderful twists and turns, which were really amazing and wonderfully tied that you would never noticed that it was actually a quite long movie. In addition, it is a comedy, no doubt, spiced up with a bit of romance, well-timed jokes, catchy music and a tragic scene. You would never want to miss what would happen next as you go along the way. The feeling of excitement of what’s going to happen continually grows as scenes to scenes goes by. The twists and turns truly make this movie a wonderful piece of a great story. But more than the comedy and drama which was wonderfully combined, what is more impressive to me is it had made me love this movie and I’m sure that would probably make you too, are the lessons within the story. I have watched this movie three times already and yet from time to time it is still feels good to watch it all over again. However, what makes the movie deep and meaningful is the theme. It actually questions the education system, which turns out thousands of fact-memorizing robots who gobble information mindlessly without thinking or questioning. No doubt this was the best movie for me that I’ve ever seen.

This story is simply all about following your dreams, love, friendship and importance of education. The story mainly revolves around three good friends, who are often called 'idiots' by their school director. The movie follows the lives of two college friends, Farhan and Raju, who are in search of their best college buddy, Rancho, who disappeared after their graduation at the Imperial College of Engineering (ICE). The three didn't only share a room at their residential college dorm for four years, but also shared the best and worst days of their lives. Rancho is a machine-genius. He aces every engineering exam while Farhan and Raju get the lowest of scores. But grades are merely numbers; they don't account for the true capacity of the person. Rancho emphasizes this to his best friends whenever they lose hope. But more than encouragement, Rancho helps his two best friends to get out of their chained selves and reach for their dreams. His friend Farhan knows that engineering was never for him, but he's trapped in ICE because of his father. His father won't let him pursue his passion for photography. Raju, on the other hand, loves engineering, but he's too scared to face tomorrow because of the heavy responsibility entrusted to him. His father is sick and her sister can't marry because they can't pay the dowry. While faced with this whirlpool of problems, Rancho encourages his friends to cast their fears away and to seize their destiny.
For me I would choose Farhan, because I can somehow relate to his life. In the story, he was destined to be an engineer since birth, although his passion lies with wildlife photography to pursue his father’s wish. No one had asked him what he really wanted to be. Under Rancho's encouragement, he decided to leave his engineering course and pursue his interest instead. Moreover, in the quote “make your passion your profession and work will become a game” or just simply “make your passion your profession”, it made me realized to do things what my heart is yearning for, to follow my true passion, to chase what I really want for my life without others to decide and interfere. The movie pointed out the importance of choosing your career. This is a big leap towards the world because the career you will take would be your lifelong career. Each of us has our own capability in different field in terms of our own potentials, others maybe good in dancing while others is good in singing and lucky are those who is good in this both talents. There are some things that only passion and interest that would makes someone to excel. As student, in choosing our preferred course before going to college, we usually follow what to our parents that they wants us to make sure that there will be no regrets. Actually, what I really want is to be an Engineer. In my high school times, my favorite subject was Drafting. I’m fond of calculating measurements and I also love Math. Though I’m not that really expert at drawing but then I really want this kind of field. So after I graduated from high school, I’d really decided for myself to take an Engineering course. That time when I’ve got my results for the entrance exam in USEP, I was happy that my grades were passed for the qualification of the Engineering courses. But then my father told me to take up Information Technology and he keep on insisting me so I follow what he had told me since he will be the one to pay for my expenses. Even it is not my preferred course; I learned to love this course. So I realized that the things that you don’t want at first, you will learn to love them. As long as it will make you happy and satisfy. It is being what you want to be. We should remember that we are capable of being who we want to be. As long as it is our passion and we give it our best then success will be the one who will follow us. We do not need to be anxious whether or not we can become successful for it is guaranteed. Being successful does not only refer to the worldly perspective of having a lot of money but the true essence of success is what you have become in reaching your goals.
In the scene when Farhan confessed to his father about his dream to be a wildlife photographer, his father disagreed and told Farhan if he will commit suicide but Farhan told him about what Rancho tells him that if he ever thinks on committing a suicide, he just look at the picture on his wallet and keep in mind that he will never see the smile of his parents. This scene touches my heart, Rancho is right. There is a time that I was so hopeless because of too many problems that I even think of ending my life but then we should think first before we go on a decision especially in committing a sinful act. This act doesn’t solve things. Think first before you go on a situation that can ruin your life and even to your family. You’ll just have to be brave to hold on and don’t ever lose hope. You just have to know where to find it. Just look up and you’ll find it because God never runs out of hope.
As I watched this movie, I was so impressed. Not just impressed, because there are many things that I’ve learned not only in the movie itself but also from their lines. The movie has so many quotable quotes that strike me as a student. There are a lot of things that marked my mind and heart through the quotes and lines that gives encouragement to me as a student. One of the lines came from the movie, “Most of us went to college just for a degree. No degree meant no plum job, no pretty wife, no credit card, and no social status.” I can say that those words had influenced me the most because it meant a thing that mostly students do not see; it is the opportunity and the delight of learning. Learning and study is never a duty but a thing to cherish because those two things are for us to experience and discover things that sooner or later will be applicable to our lives in the present or even in the future. I find this movie very inspiring and motivating especially as a student, it directs me to a different but effective ways on how to deal with my studies.
In this movie, I’ve learned a lot of things. In chasing my dreams, faith must be considered as my confederate. It will be my greatest assistant in order to determine my real dreams and guide me to follow it. In addition to, the movie also teaches us that people only live once and even in the worst of times, we must not surrender. It inspires me to see that life is beautiful and that every day is always a present and chance for me to live my life to the fullest. Just do everything with passion and determination, and you'll go a long way. You'll just be surprised for whatever opportunity that awaits you. Through these lessons, it makes me whole as a student and inspired me to pursue on my studies. Continue living with faith and always remember that “All is well.” It may not solve the problem, but it gives us the courage to face it.
